Ariel Pink: A bedroom pop genius. Almost got him to play at 123 in 2006, which makes me sad because his live show is nothing like the recordings. A full band, complete with an actual drum set (instead of him banging his head up against a wall and/or using the most antiquated drum machine known to man). “Twenty-two Eyes” is one of his more straightforward tracks. It tends not to meander into the AM radio psych-pop territory of “The Doldrums.” There’s a video of this song done for the A.D.D. program on Pitchfork.tv. Definitely my favorite edition of that show. Pink does a lot of the filming himself while wearing a headset mic.
